Lifetouch Corporate History

1936

Lifetouch is founded as National School Studios. School portraits are just 20¢ for three, or 50¢ for 12.

1948

Lifetouch introduces the first 5x7 enlargement in schools.

1955 Lifetouch introduces color portraits.

1968

Lifetouch introduces the 8x10 enlargement, nearly doubling school portrait sales.

1978

Lifetouch transfers ownership to employees: local newspaper headline reads: "Owner to 'Give Away' Photo Firm."

1980  

Lifetouch Micro Z camera revolutionizes the school picture industry.

1984

National School Studios becomes Lifetouch: a name chosen to reflect what the company does - how it touches lives through photography.

1990s

Lifetouch leverages digital technology, which increases speed and efficiency.

2001

Company Divisions:

Lifetouch National School Studios: School pictures.
Lifetouch Portrait Studios: Portrait studios in
JC Penney and Target stores.
Lifetouch Publishing: School yearbooks.
Lifetouch Church Directories: Church directories.
Lifetouch Development, Inc.: Special event photography at malls (e.g. holiday photos); business portraits; and, video production.
